Pinball

An After Effects animation challenge — a pinball machine with an underwater twist, hand-animated from scratch with zero plugins.

A still from the Pinball animation showing an underwater scene with a cannonball, bubbles, and sea creatures.

In this project I created a scene of a unique pinball-like world with an underwater twist. The challenge was to design a pinball-like concept and animate everything from scratch, without leaning on any plugins — every problem solved using native AE tools only. The concept combined the mechanics of a classic pinball game with the slower, fluid motion of an underwater world. A cannonball floats through the scene, surrounded by bubbles, sea animals, sea plants, and marine-inspired obstacles.

Working inside those constraints pushed me to think critically about how to get smooth, engaging animation with limited resources. I focused on timing, transitions, and creating a sense of depth and movement. Designing the assets and every little animation, I had to make sure they all contributed and flowed together. It was my first After Effects project and it let me explore motion design in a playful way — both as a skill and as a storytelling medium.
