How Saxophone Came To Be

A storytelling site for the Musical Instruments Museum of Brussels — scroll-driven animations with GSAP and a build-your-own-saxophone-tune audio toy.

This was a storytelling website aimed at attracting a younger audience to the Musical Instruments Museum of Brussels. The idea was to make the museum’s collection feel exciting and modern — something that could resonate with people who might not typically visit.

First I did user research, then chose an instrument to dig into the history of, so I could write something worth reading. After learning way too much about saxophones, I wrote the copy and started turning the story into an experience. I iterated on the design in Figma many times before arriving at the final version.

I implemented scroll animations with GSAP to bring the story to life — smooth, dynamic transitions that made the experience feel interactive and tactile. I also experimented with an audio library for an interactive bit where users can create a saxophone tune from the letters of their name, adding another layer to the story. The project came with plenty of challenges, including a 3-week deadline that covered research, design, and code.
