This was a team piece for Wondr Festival — a large-scale projection on the City Hall of Kortrijk. My study program Devine, collaborating with Designregio Kortrijk, asked third-year students to create scenes celebrating the participating UNESCO Design Cities. My team and I used After Effects to design an animation celebrating Detroit — its history, culture, and design. Through the projection we wanted to highlight Detroit’s creative and unyielding spirit, while reflecting its connection to its past, present, and future.
As a team, we worked together to read the architectural details of the building, making sure the animations aligned exactly with the facade. My role, like my teammates’, focused on creating vibrant, engaging motion graphics that complemented the building while contributing to the overall narrative. The project asked for creativity and precision but also strong teamwork, communication, and time management — we had one week to bring it all together.
It was a rare opportunity to combine storytelling, design, and large-scale animation in a public setting over three weeks of work. Seeing it come to life on a historic building was something I won’t forget.
